Sydney came down with a cold last week. She seemed to be getting better throughout last week but then on Sunday she started getting worse. She was coughing a little bit on Sunday. We sent her into daycare on Monday but a call a couple hours later. She was running a fever and was coughing very consistenly. She proceeded to get worse as Monday wore on and got to the point where she didn't even want to take her bottle. We went to the doctor on Mondya dn she was diagnosed with two ear infections and bronchitis. Dr Calisto (her pediatrician) gave her amoxicylin for the ear infections and advised to watch the intake of fluids. She continued to get worse Monday night into Tuesday morning. She was coughing so much that we had hold her in order for her to sleep. Tuesday brought another day of continual worsening of her cough, runny nose, sore throat and ear aches. We ended up bringing her to Dr Calisto again and she advised that we bring her to the ER at South Shore Hospital (they have a pediactric ER unit) due to her not taking any fluids for another day.
We headed up to South Shore and she was given a nebulizer and put on an IV. The doctors wanted to admit her due to her lack of fluids. Jess stayed with her overnight in the pediatric unit. Sydney and jess only got a few hours of sleep. They had to share the room with another sick toddler. The doctors ended up giving her about 1.5 bags of fluid overnight and yesterday afternoon Jess got her to begin taking fluids again. The doctors decided to let her leave since she was taking fluids again. She is at home now and is very weak due to her lack of food and fluids. She got about 12 hours of sllep last night and seems to be in a better mood overall.
We will update as the days progress.
